Welcome to the Las Vegas Ausball league. You are going to get a play a brand new
sport that is derived from Australian football. It is a fast paced, non contact, coed
sport unlike any of you have ever played. It mixes elements of basketball, football
and soccer into one!
The object of the game is to score the most points. The game is played over three 12
minute periods. Teams will consist of 5-7 players on the field and 1-2 players on the
bench.
The field:
The field is oval shaped roughly 70 yards long by 35 wide. Each end has two posts
(goals) set up. A line divides the field down the middle.

How points are scored:
Points are scored by kicking the ball through the goals. If it goes through or rolls
through without being touched, the kicking team is awarded a goal (6 points). If it is
touched, the kicking team is awarded a behind (1 point).

Rules:
1.        At the beginning of every period or after a goal is scored the ball will begin in
the middle of the field with a tipoff like in basketball.
2.        If the ball rolls out of bounds, it is a turnover and the other team will get a free
quick from that spot. If a player carries the ball out of bounds it is also a turnover
and the other team will be awarded a free kick.
3.        There is to be NO contact. Just like in basketball, contact will result in a free
penalty kick for the other team. Players must go for the ball and when someone has
possession of the ball you may only guard them. If a player commits unnecessary
roughness, he will be ejected at the discretion of the umpire and the umpire may
award the other team a penalty shot on goal. Awarding penalty kicks for incidental
contact will be at the discretion of the umpire.
4.        Players must dispose of the ball within five steps of gaining possession of the
ball. Disposal may occur by kicking or handballing. If the ball is not disposed of soon
enough, it will be a turnover and the other team will be awarded a free kick.
5.        If a player commits an improper hand pass (throw), the other team will be
awarded a free kick.
6.        If a behind is scored, the opposing team will kick the ball out from their goal
square. The defender may not enter the goal square until after the kick. If a goal is
kicked, the ball will reset and be tipped off in the middle of the field.
7.        A kick or handball may be delivered in any direction.
8.        A goal may not be kicked from the defensive side of the field. A player must
cross the center line and be on the offensive side of the field before taking a shot on
goal. If a goal is kicked from the defensive side of the field, it will result in a turnover
and free kick for the other team. The only exception is if a mark is taken on the
offensive, the player may backup behind the centerline to take the free kick.
9.        A player taking a free kick may take as much time as he/she desires to kick the
ball. The defender will play the mark, and the kicker will back up from the mark and
take the free kick. Free kicks are not limited to the 5 step rule. The player may also
elect to handball to a teammate instead of a kick however the receiver must then
dispose of the ball within 5 steps.
10.        If a player catches a kick without it touching the ground (like a football
reception), he/she gets a free kick. The player has the option to take the free kick or
to continue play if there is an advantage.
11.        When a kick is made, players attempting to catch the ball must go for the ball
and avoid contact with other players. Should excessive contact occur, possession of
the ball will be awarded to the player who had the best positioning to receive the
kicked ball.

Player layout: Teams will likely have 5 people on the field. One full forward, one full
back and three midfielders. Teams may adjust this at their discretion. No player is
required to stay in any part of the field.
