- 2009 Grand Final Party is Planned!
On a hot day that could have been mistaken for Vegas weather, the Gamblers
traveled to Orange County to play against the Bombers Div III squad. While not
hyped as much as the AZ/OC earlier in the day, it certainly was the most
entertaining match of the day with the Gamblers pulling out a narrow victory.
With both squads running short on players, OC B borrowed from their A squad
and Vegas took players from AZ, San Diego, and a couple OC guys.
There was two goal wind to account for in this match and it was not in favor of
the Gamblers in the first. Despite that, excellent midfield play gave the
Gamblers lead after one quarter. In the second, Vegas began to pour it on with
the wind at their back. There were multiple smooth passages of play and the
team played with lots of intensity often winning one on one contests.
At the half, Vegas had a comfortable lead but knew that OC would not throw in
the towel and expected their best in the second half. And they were not
disappointed. It seemed that everything the Gamblers did in the third quarter
could not stop the fresh legs of the newly inserted OC players but the
Gamblers still managed to hold the lead after three.
In the fourth quarter, Vegas got their footing back but it was a knock down drag
out fight to the finish line. In one final attempt, an OC player lined up from 25
out with a chance to tie the game but instead pushed the footy for a behind.
With that, the Gamlbers were able to play ferocious defense and keep OC off
the board for any more. It was an intense win and one that will be remembered
for some time. Thanks to all the teams who joined the contest on our behalf.
Final Score: LV 8.8.56 to OC 7.9.51
- Gamblers set to take on OC
The Gamblers will be heading to LA and joining forces with the Arizona Hawks
this weekend to see if they can put a dent in the OC Bombers perfect record.
Game will start at 1pm.
- Gamblers Finalize Schedule
Practice is back on as the Gamblers prepare for a title run at nationals in
October. The team has finalized their schedule for the rest of the season.
Practices will be Saturday's at 6pm at Desert Breeze Park. Scheduled games
include August 29th @ OC, Sept 17th v. Burnaby, and Oct 9-11th at nationals
in Mason, OH.
The Las Vegas Gamblers will be taking July off to get a bit of a break and avoid
the Vegas heat before resuming for the stretch run in August.
- Gamblers still searching for number 1
Victory number one is still off the board after last Saturday's game with OC.
The Gamblers felt good about the squad taking the field but were just plain
beat by a great looking Bombers squad. The temperature soared to 106
degrees at the tip and the contest was on. Right from the beginning the
Bombers wings and back lines surged forward and would put pressure on the
young Gamblers all day long. For Las Vegas, the effort was there but there
was simply no way to match the experience and skill of OC. The day was not
without highlights though. In one passage young Matt Anderson scooped the
footy, juked two Bombers, gave and got two handballs and then kicked forward
to a clean mark that would put points on the board for the Gamblers. Brett
Pease also gave good minutes to the Gamblers marking several balls in the
face of tremendous pressure. New players Epi Hernandez and Archie Keeton
also played well and give the team something to look forward to.
After the game, the boys all went out to McMullan's pub for bite to eat and to
catch a little footy on the TV.
Thanks to all the player who came over and rounded out our squad, to OC for
making a trip out and providing great competition and to McMullan's pub for
hosting us.
- Home Tilt this weekend against Orange County
The Las Vegas Gamblers will get a rare home tilt against the Orange County
Bombers this Saturday at 4pm at Swainston Middle School. Come out and
support the squad. After game party will be at McMullan's pub at 8pm.
- Vegas has a great time in San Diego
Thanks to San Diego for putting together a great tournament. Las Vegas
gained valuable experience for some of its younger player and enjoyed perfect
footy weather in San Diego. Scores will be posted soon.
- Gamblers put hat in the ring for San Diego Tourney
The Las Vegas Gamblers will be traveling to San Diego this weekend (May
16th) to compete in a four team metro tourney. The Gamblers will get three
games in against two San Diego teams and the AZ Hawks. Wish the team luck!
- Gamblers fall to the Lions
The Las Vegas Gamblers took on the San Diego Lions and it was a great
match to kick off the 2009 season. The Gamblers are in rebuilding mode again
after losing over half the team to the economy. The results of the game
exceeded expectations as the Gamblers held their own for three of the
quarters. In fact, they caught the Lions off guard the first quarter and took the
lead ending. The Gamblers missed a ton of opportunities to put up a sizeable
lead in the first quarter as the midfield and backers kept down the Lions attack.
But the young lions spoiled multiple opportunities with tough defense so the
Gamblers settled for a two point lead at the first break. The second saw a see
saw action as both teams were going hard at it but the Lions were able to
reclaim the lead at the half. Score 47, 43 Lions. The third quarter saw the Lions
take charge of the game with vintage San Diego footy and the Gamblers
couldnt handle the back lines running through. In the fourth, Vegas regained its
footing to hold tight with Lions. Final score: SDL 12.15.87, LVG 8.8.56.
The match was promising as several new players carried more than their load
and several other players continued to improve. To see pics, click here.
- Gamblers Prepare to take on San Diego
The Las Vegas Gamblers will get their first match of the season April 18th at
3pm at Sunset park. The Gamblers are looking to reload this season after a
disappointing 2008 and will have a tough start by squaring off against the San
Diego Lions. Come support the club and root Vegas onto victory!
The Las Vegas Gamblers enjoyed the long off season this winter but are now
gearing back up for 2009. Practices begin Saturday, Feb 28th at 10:30am at
the park off of Town Center and Garden Mist. For more information or to join
the club, click here.
- Gamblers wrap up national tournament
The Gamblers wrapped up play last Sunday at the 2008 USAFL national
tournament in Colorado Springs. The conditions were less than ideal with the
temperature barely tipping 40 degrees and rain and strong wind bearing down
all weekend. To top it off, the fields were at a stout elevation of 7200' so
breathing was a challenge as well. The squad handled it well beginning the
tournament by pushing Seattle harder than any of the other teams it would face
in the pool. Our squad came out a little soft in the rough conditions and Seattle
capitalized and never looked back.
Game 2 was against the Nashville 'Roos and proved to be the most physical
challenge of the tournament. The young Gamblers responded to their softness
in the first match by coming out strong and physical in game. The Gamblers led
for most of the game but gave up a big mark in the forward line with five
minutes left in the game and 'Roos held serve after that.
The conditions were a little better in Sunday's game three match against
Minnesota but again the club had to respond to the Freeze's ability to push the
ball quickly with numbers. It was a tough fought match but again the Gamblers
came up short on accuracy and it cost the game.
Overall, while disappointed with going 0 and 3, the Gamblers feel confident
they are ready to compete at the division II level. The squad delivered more
balls into the forward lines than their opponents but just didn't capitalize on the
opportunities. The team plans to turn their attention this off season towards
making necessary improvement. Visit the scores page for individual game
scores.
- Gamblers invited to USAFL national tournament
The Las Vegas Gamblers have received their first Div II bid in the 2008 USAFL
National Tournament in Colorado Springs, CO. The club is excited about
playing in a tougher division and hopes to continue its success in the national
tournaments. Las Vegas is pooled with Minnesota, Seattle and Vancouver. If
the club advances out of the pool, it will play for the Div II national
championship against the winner of the other pool. The tournament will be held
October 11-12th. For more information, visit www.usfooty.com.
- Gamblers hang tough with OC and San Diego
The Las Vegas Gamblers traveled to San Diego to take on Lions and OC
Bombers on Saturday. Though the team came up short in both tilts, they
played both games very close.
In the first match, the Gamblers took on Orange County pressing the skilled
bombers hard. Thirty five minutes into the match, the Gamblers held a six point
lead but the Bombers showed why they were a Div I squad and flooded the
LVG back lines with a flurry of kicks. They young Gamblers had trouble
clearing the zone and coughed up the lead. It was a great match that proved
the Gamblers are closing in on the upper echelon teams in the league. Final
Score LVG 4.0.24 to OC 7.7.49
In the second match, the Gamblers played San Diego. San Diego set the
tempo in the first half and controlled the footy. The Gamblers played just as
hard but without as good of positioning. In the second half the Gamblers
resolved to play more aggressively and press the back lines forward. The move
paid off as the Gamblers held San Diego to half of the first half production.
Final Score LVG 2.2.14 to SD 6.3.39
The weekend was a great learning experience for the club who now set their
sights on nationals and bringing home a title.
- LVG drops a pair in Phoenix
The Las Vegas Gamblers finished 0 and 2 this weekend in Phoenix. The
weekend started off with a match against OC who the Gamblers battled to the
very end. It was a close match but accuracy kept the Gamblers from overtaking
the fifth ranked Bombers. Final score OC 6.6.42 to LV 4.8.32. Match two
immediately followed in the scorching 100 degree heat against the Arizona
Hawks. The resurgent Hawks played hard and fast and simply used their fresh
legs to overtake the Gamblers. Final score AZ 8.3.51 to LV 3.0.18. Thanks to
the Hawks for hosting Las Vegas and putting on a great Duel in the Desert.
- US Revolution has Gambler Flavor
Two LVG players, Marty Curry and Rob Luto, have made the US National team.
The Revos will be traveling to Australia in a couple weeks to compete in an
international competition against fifteen other teams. The US squad looks to
build on its 3rd place finish from 2005. Wish our boys luck!
- LVG Prepares to square off against the Hawks and
Bombers
Las Vegas will be traveling to Phoenix, Arizona on Aug 16th to take on the
Arizona Hawks and OC Bombers. It will be the young Gamblers first road tilt and
a good test of the progress of the club. Games will be at Nicholls park starting
at 9am. Wish us luck!
- 2007 LVG Highlight Video Posted

- Las Vegas Falls to the Lions
Vegas took on the San Diego Lions at Aviary park in an doubleheader event.
The first pitted the two cities Ausball squads and was a close match the whole
way. Vegas pulled out the victory 38-33 on the strong play of Ashley on the
forward line.
The second match pitted last years Div I runner up against the young
Gamblers. Vegas came out fast scoring the first goal and catch San Diego by
surprise. But the Lions had weathered many storms before and eventually took
advantage of the Gamblers lack of experience to take a large halftime lead.
After a fiery speech at halftime by captain Marty Curry, the Gamblers would not
give away the match and won the third quarter but conditioning swung the
pendulum back to the Lions in the fourth and they cruised to victory winning the
match. San Diego Lions 16.16.112 d Las Vegas Gamblers 6.9.45
Thanks to the Lions for traveling out and giving our Ausball team a run as well.
It was a great litmus test for the 2008 Gamblers and we will definitely improve
from the experience.
The Las Vegas Gamblers have set their 2008 schedule with matches against
San Diego, Orange County, and Arizona. One home game is scheduled
against San Diego. For more details on practice and games, click here.
The Las Vegas Ausball league wrapped up on March 29th. The Rattlers
claimed the inaugural league championship. It was a great experience and
recruiting tool for the full footy team. The league also helped spread knowledge
of the sports in Las Vegas. Marty Curry won the MVP and Lawrence Snowden
won the most improved player award. The team is looking forward to the
upcoming footy season!
The Las Vegas Ausball league will be playing round 1 next Saturday! Deadline
for signing up is March 1st. Click here for all of the details. Get in on it now!!

- Gamblers fall short in Div III Finals
Las Vegas returns home after competing in the 2007 USAFL national
championship in Louisville, KY where they just fell short of winning their
second consecutive Div III national championship. Overall, the squad won
three games and lost in the final to a quality St. Louis squad. It was a great
effort by the boys and they exhibited the heart this team is known for.
Thanks to NY for giving us their support and a few players. Thanks also to
all the team supporters who coached, ran water, and served the team over
the weekend. Click here for the detailed match report.
- Gamblers head to Nationals
The Las Vegas Gamblers will be heading to Louisville, KY on Oct 13-14th to
attempt to win a consecutive Div III Flag. The Gamblers are coming off a
loss to the San Diego Lions and look to rebound at Nationals. Las Vegas will
be combining with New York's extras to round out a full squad. Wish us luck!
- Las Vegas Gamblers Grand Final Party
The Grand Final Party is official! Come and join us on Friday,
September 28 at 8.30 PM at McMullans Irish Pub at 4650 West Tropicana
Ave, next to the New Orleans. We have a room reserved just for the
game. Look for our "Aces" jumpers.
- Lions prove too much for Gamblers
The Las Vegas Gamblers put up a good fight against the San Diego Lions
this past Saturday but could not hang the reigning Div I champs. The first
half our boys put some concern into the mighty lions pulling into halftime
down only 22 points. The Gamblers were right in the middle of almost all
of the contests but the team's in experience proved to be its demise. With
several first timers and a team that only boasts six players from last years
Div III championship, the Gamblers are not quite ready to hit the big stage.
Still, there was much to be happy about out of this game and playing
quality sides will quickly propel the Gamblers to the big stage. Thanks to
all the people who help put the game on.
- Gamblers ready to tame the Lions
The Las Vegas Gamblers will be squaring off against the San Diego Lions
on August 25th at 7:30pm at Aviary park in a match of national
champions. San Diego won the Div I national championship and have not
lost a game in two years. Your Gamblers won the Div III national
championship and are looking to step up and play the best. Come out and
watch the game. Admission is free!
- Gamblers Defeat Kansas City, Lose to Denver
Four of the Las Vegas Gamblers traveled to Denver this past weekend to
take on the Denver Bulldogs and Kansas City Power. Having only small
numbers traveling, the Gamblers hooked up with Denver’s “B” team to take
Denver “A” and KC. The weather was warm, the fields where nice, and our
guys were ready to have a kick. Read more...
- Gamblers represent their country
Three Gamblers will be in Canada representing the U.S. this weekend. A
stalwort on the US Revolution, Marty Curry will look to lead the team to
victory over Canada. In the under 18 game, Matt Anderson and John will
be playing and representing the future of the sport in Las Vegas. Wish
them luck!
- Gamblers Defeat Arizona Hawks
The Las Vegas Gamblers defeated the Arizona Hawks 13.8.86 to
8.11.59 Saturday night at Aviary park. It was a hard fought game and a
milestone for the Gamblers as it was the first full home game played by
the team. Las Vegas looks to carry the momentum into its games against
Denver and Kansas City on August 11th. Thanks to the Hawks for
making the trip out!
- Recruiting begins for Air Force Team
Recruiting has began for the first US Air Force Australian Football team.
The Air Force team will play in an armed forces cup tournament and
possibly the Aussie Air Force during their tour at Nellis. If you are
interested in joining the team or the Las Vegas Gamblers, click the
registration link at the left of the page.
- Gamblers first home game, July 28th
Come support the Gamblers in their first home game of the season on
July 28th at 7:30pm at Aviary park off of Aviary and I215. Las Vegas will
be taking on Arizona Hawks.
The Gamblers suffered a big loss in July after the team MVP, Michael
Ablett, went back to Australia to pursue an opportunity there. Mic led the
team to its first national title in as many tries. Best wishes to a great
player on the field and a stand up guy off the field.
The Gamblers combined with the Arizona Hawks and took on the San
Diego Lions. It was a hard fought match but the Lions proved they are
still the best in the country with an easy victory. Thanks to all who made
the trip out to San Diego.
Last Saturday the team got together to play its second metro game of
the early season. This time around the Mojave Greens handily beat the
Aces. Skill levels are steadily improving though the squad has a long
ways to go. Overall, the use of the footy was really good especially
considering how many new players are on the team but crisp execution
needs to be worked on.
The day was beautiful for footy minus the stout wind blowing across the
ground. The Greens came out firing putting up a 3 goal lead at the half.
The Aces had a tough time containing Tim Orr whose athleticism in the
ruck always created numbers for the Greens. The Aces rallied in the
second half but fell short of their comeback bid with a handful of kicks
falling short of the goal and into Marty’s hands.
The Gamblers are looking for new players to join this year’s team. If you
are interested, please email info@vegasfooty.com.
Ladies are needed to play for the Las Vegas ladies footy team. (Name of
team tbd). Help build the new ladies team and make a run for the ladies
National Championship! Anyone who is interested please email
VegasFooty at info@vegasfooty.com.
- RECORD TURN OUT FOR PRACTICE GAME!
Gamblers/Vegas Footy had a record turn out for Saturday's practice
game between the white and red. We had a record 24 people (22 guys
and 2 ladies) show up Saturday. Thanks for all who came out.

you register with USFooty (returning players must register again). It is
free to do so. You will need 3 points to play at the Nationals, that is

- GAMBLERS TAKE 2006 DIV. III NATIONAL TITLE!
